Our Story
Before federal ELDT requirements changed CDL training, most people had limited options—long full-time programs or learning informally with little structure or access to proper equipment. Too often, students arrived at their CDL skills test unprepared, not from lack of effort, but because they didn’t have a clear, practical training path.
While working as a third-party CDL skills tester, our founder, Harry Packwood, saw this problem firsthand. Motivated people were ready to work and build better careers—they just needed hands-on training that actually prepared them for real driving and real jobs.
Headquartered in Idaho, Harry launched Idaho CDL Training: a program built around real equipment, real instruction, and real-world expectations—not just passing a test.
Over time, we partnered with employers in utilities, construction, municipalities, waste management, and transportation who needed more than licensed drivers—they needed safe, reliable, job-ready professionals.
As demand grew beyond Idaho, our mission expanded into CDL training in Texas and other states under the name Impact CDL Training, reflecting the broader reach of what we’ve built and the impact we aim to create for students and employers.

Do I need experience to start?
You don’t need any commercial driving experience to begin. Our programs support first-time learners and those looking to build on existing skills. For many new drivers, this is the best way to get a CDL and start a rewarding career. Reach out and we’ll help you get started.
Can veterans use GI Bill® benefits?
Yes, but only in Idaho. We don’t have GI Bill funding available at this time. Idaho Veterans can use GI Bill® benefits for approved CDL training programs.
What kind of jobs can I get with a CDL?
A CDL qualifies you for careers in transportation, construction, utilities, delivery, passenger transport, and many skilled trade positions. The right job for you depends on your license class and endorsements.
Do you offer job placement support?
Our ELDT CDL training programs are designed to prepare you for real-world driving jobs and employer requirements. With this said, we don’t offer guaranteed job placement, but we do share resources, hiring leads, and industry guidance to help you connect with potential employers.
